In 2021, The City of Gibson will celebrate it’s Sesquicentennial, breaking ground 150 years ago. Until then, this page will be updated with information regarding the celebrations to come. Special Sequincentenial Articles to be published:
- To start, Special Edition articles will be published regarding Gibson City’s Sequicentenial Year. Three articles published each month, all year long will shed light on historical people, business’ and events in Gibson City. These interviews will be found on WGCY, the Ford County Chronicle, the Ford County Record, the Gibson City Sesquicentennial Facebook Page, and Gibson City Illinois Website. Keep an eye out for the latest publications!
- Gibson City Sesquicentenial Photography Contest Announced; Please scroll to ‘upcoming events’ for the latest details. More information can also be found on our Facebook https://www.facebook.com/cityofgibson/ . Winners will be announced in August!
February 2021
- GCMS Elementary Students will publishing Art Pieces and Writings following the theme ‘What I Love About GIbson City”. These pieces will be shared on WGCY, with the Ford County Chronicle, the Ford County Record, the Gibson City Sesquicentennial Facebook Page, and Gibson City Illinois Website. March 2021

April 2021
- All Senior Living Facilities, inlcluding Heritage Health Manor, GAH Annex, and The Villas of Hollybrook, planning to hold a Birthday Party recognizing their Senior Citizens and the City’s Historical Birthday.
May 2021
- May 2, 2021 – Community Family event at the GC North Park, 1:00PM – 4:00 PM. The Time Capsule that was buried in 1971 will be opened, along with having food, icecream, games for kids, and live music.
June 2021
- Celebrations recognizing Gibson City’s prolific volunteer organizations will be held through out the month!
July 2021
- Special Edition ACT THEATER performances – held at GC North Park – Dates to be announced.
- July 15, 2021 – Dedication of Miner School Landmark – reception to follow at GC North Park.

- Historical-Holiday Season begins! Held in conjuction with our Sequicentenial, Gibson’s Holiday season begins with new festivites such as publishing themed photos and articles, and a hosting a Community food and necessity drive; more events and details to come!
December 2021
- Historical-Holiday Season – Downtown Business’are decoring toward a Vintage Theme
- Historical-Holiday Season – ‘Christmas in the Park’ themes will focus on holidays past and Vintage Gibson City! Date to be determined: more details to come!
